INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE 1 — DOUBLE EXPOSURE

For this exercise we explore the various aspects of tools to create a double exposure. Double exposure refers to the merging of multiple images to achieve a surrealistic image. Through this exercise, we also learn how to use various blending modes.

Fig 1.1 Progress of Selecting and Masking

After using quick selection to select the object, we had to mask the object to clean the edges precisely.

Fig 1.2 Process of Adding the trees

Next, the image of the forest was added and repositioned, then a solid colour layer was added for the background. The face was unmasked using a brush. The forest layer was then duplicated and turned upside down. Last but not least the images of the birds and the clouds were added with the multiply and darken blending modes.

PROJECT 2

Fig 2.1 Image of myself

I wanted to go for a flower themed double exposure so I decided to edit half of my body with flowers with butterflies on the flowers. I utilized my pose in the image to further emphasize the flowery theme by adding a butterfly on the flowers held in my hands. The method used for creating this double exposure is similar to the steps in the first exercise.

Fig 2.2 Draft Progress of First Attempt in Double Exposure

I didnt know what to add below the meadow of flowers behind my head so I decided to add an image of a man posing on a mountain but after reiceving the feedback, I realized that the image of the man on the mountain and the flowers do not complement each other since they reflect different themes, so I decided to replace that with flowers as according to the feedback given. They also look pretty cluttered and the image of the man on the mountain had a large contrast from the image of the field of flowers and did not match the theme.

Fig 2.3 Progress of Double Exposure after feedback

After reconsidering the feedback, I decided to replace the image of the man on the mountain with cropped out sakura flower images to fit the overall theme of the double exposure design. I made my backbone as a trail of sakura flowers.

The procedures for the other displacement exercises in figures 2.2 and 2.3 are the same.

FEEDBACK
Week 6 — Double Exposure : Too many things going on, too cluttered. Did not focus on one theme. Remove the image of the man on the mountain and replace it with flowers.
