❥TASK
Week 1 — FLIP Topic 1 : Different types of infographics and online tools (Group Task)
For our first FLIP task, we were instructed to do group work and research on
different types of infographics and conduct a presentation on them.

Week 1 — FLIP Topic 1 : Different types of infographics and online tools (Individual Task)
Our first individual task was to re-design a poorly constructed
infographic poster.
This poorly designed infographic poster is due to the common mistake where
people often mistake using the wrong charts and graphs for their
infographics, thus this infographic below is using an inaccurate data
visualization. They tried to incorporate the 'pizza' element since the
infographic's context was about pizzas but created a pie chart to present
different company CEOs. This same information below could have been
communicated better through a different form such as the timeline
infographic since the information presented is related to time periods.

After observing the first poster, I re-designed it into a timeline infographic from scratch using canva. I tried to add a flow towards the infographic to make it easier for the viewers to read the infographic by guiding their eyes to the flow of the contents of the poster.
Before attempting to redesign the poster, I decided to look at a few references.

The infographics above present a flow of read from the top page to the bottom, which inspired me to do something similar for my infographic.
Fig 1.3 First Attempt Re-designed Infographic Poster
I decided to use yellow lines to guide the viewer's path into a flow of
read of the poster from the top to the bottom. It starts with the earlier
years on the top of the poster and proceeds to the later years on the
lower part of the infographic. I sticked to a similar colour scheme
according to the badly designed infographic poster as it fit the theme of
pizzas. I tried to keep it consistent but also giving it a little bit of a
flow by positioning the pizzas on the left and on the right as a pattern to give the poster a little more dynamic and make it look less stiff and to balance out the composition as well.
Rating and review of online tool using Canva
Intuitiveness
Canva allows those who are foreign to graphic design to easily design a wide range of things such as infographics, brochures, logos, etc and provides templates for those who haven't had a grasp in design yet. The tools and features such as editing the text or transforming the elements are also pretty straightforward which makes it convenient and simple.
Features/Functionality
Canva offers a ton of features for graphic designers to be able to utilize and also makes it convenient and effective for those that aren't familiar with professional graphic design programs or still foreign to graphic designing. It simplifies the editing of certain text or image by providing various effects for texts or images. It also provides a wide range of elements and images suited for whatever you need to design. Even though there are a wide range of elements and images to use, there aren't much specific elements you could create thus limiting the creativity and the ability to create certain elements.
Week 2 — FLIP Topic 1 : Different types of infographics and online tools (Group Task)
As a group, we were instructed to do an explanation on the LATCH topic and
provide examples or scenarios of what information is best utilized in each
principle.

Exercise 1 — Quantify and Visualize Data
We were instructed to present a set of information by arranging the
objects and presenting them in a layout or chart with relevant indicators
written. I decided to use uno cards for this exercise and arranged them in
a pie chart then calculated the percentage of each of them according to
the number of the cards identified by their respective colours.
Fig 2.2 First Attempt of Quantify and Visualize Data
I decided to add more information to elaborate the data that is being
presented in the pie chart. I decided to add more details to the data by
classifying them into colours and symbols, listing down the amount of
cards for each colour and symbol.

Week 2 — FLIP Topic 2 : Individual Task - LATCH
Organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and
utilizes the LATCH principles. I decided to use Adobe Illustrator for
this task and assembled the characters from The Owl House show to their
respective coven tracks into a LATCH infographic poster. There are 4
categories of coven tracks namely, abomination, emperor, plant and
illusion and 11 characters in total divided into these 4 categories.
These coven tracks are then placed according to where they are located
on the map of the 'Boiling Isles'.
Notes for the Categories (The Owl House Coven Tracks)
- Emperors coven(yellow/gold) : lilith, hunter, kikimora
- Abomination coven(purple) : amity, luz noceda, alador blight
- illusion(light blue) : gus porter, edric blight, emira blight
- plant(green) : willow park, amelia

After vectorizing the map and the coven tracks, I labeled the coven
tracks and the locations using Ibis paint.

Week 3 — FLIP Topic : Miller's Law - Chunking
As a group, we were instructed to do research on Miller's Law of
Chunking topic and provide some examples for the various types of
chunking.

Week 4 — FLIP Topic 4 : Manuel Lima's 9 Directives Manifesto
As a group, we were instructed to do research on Manuel Lima's 9 Directives Manifesto topic and provide some examples for the 9 different types.

❥FEEDBACK
❥REFLECTION
FLIP was definitely something that was quite foreign to me, thus doing our research as a group enabled us to learn more aspects on various topics. I also learned about the principles used in infographics and how each type of infographic enables the viewers and readers to process information in a much easier way. Topics such as LATCH made me observed that every infographic contains of at least 2-3 principles and how each respective principle used in an infographic could ease the reader to consume the information being presented.
