Motion Graphic & Exercises
❥EXERCISES
Week 3 — Motion Graphics Motion graphics is a form of
animation but with more of a focus on the movement of graphical elements such
as shapes and texts. They help break down complex information and make the
consumption of the information easier, which comes in handy for tutorial
videos and data visualisation.
In this week' s practical class, we were guided step by step on our first
attempt in kinetic typography using the text animation tool and parenting them
to null objects.

Week 4 — Motion Graphic Chart Charts are often used to display
data to ease the understanding of large quantities of data and allows us to
see the relationship between the data being presented. Some of the types of
charts include pie charts, line chart and bar chart. To visualize data as a
form of motion graphics in after effects, we could use the shape layer tool
and trim paths tool.
For this week's practical class, we were instructed to animate a set of data
according to its appropriate chart. I was assigned to animate a pie chart and
I created the shapes using the circle shape tool and animated them using trim
paths tool and added key frames with easy ease.

Week 5 — Vector Character Animation In after effects, character
animation could be done using keyframes such as position, scale and rotation.
To make such animations look smoother, we could animate a bounce effect by
adding a slightly offset extra keyframe between the start and the end
keyframes.
Before animating it in after effects, its crucial to separate the elements
needed to be animated in Illustrator. This week's practical class we were
assigned to a specific set of vectors and were tasked to animate them.
To animate the elements, I used puppet position tool, position keyframes,
scale keyframes and rotation keyframes.

❥INSTRUCTIONS
❥TASKS
1. Project 2 — Kinetic Typography
Fig 1.1 "Enemy " Cover by Reinaeiry
For our second project, we were tasked as a group to create a lyric kinetic
typography of a song. Our group decided to go with Enemy but instead of
using the original by Imagine Dragons, we decided to use the female cover
version since it sounded more as if the main character named Jinx was
singing it thus it is more impactful.
We divided a set of lyrics to animate for each of us and created a moodboard
for us to follow to maintain consistency which includes the colour palette,
visual references, and the font. The lyrics that I chose are lines 7, 8, 9,
10.

We took some visual references and observed them from the original Enemy
music video and other music videos that has a similar style and colour
palette.
Fig 1.4 Progress of first line of the word "Searching"
I used the expression tool and added some property and scale for the text
animation and added a code for text animation expression. For the transition
from the first to the second line, I used scale to create a zoom in effect
through the magnifying glass.
Fig 1.5 Progress of fourth line of the word "Smiling"
For the word "Smiling", I used a similar text animation where it fell down
into a shape of a smile and used the puppet tool to shape it into a
smile.

❥FEEDBACK
For the chorus, the spacing between the eye and the text on the left and the
right are uneven.
❥REFLECTION
For the first few weeks, learning after effects wasn't as easy as I thought
and I honestly had doubts for the final outcome as I wasn't confident with my
skills and knowledge in using After Effects thus resulting in not meeting the
standards or expectations for the kinetic typography project but with the
support of my group members and watching tutorials whilst observing other
kinetic typography videos on youtube, I quickly improved and progressed with
my skills in using After Effects and completed my part in time. I genuinely
enjoyed the process of animating whilst learning and exploring various tools
on After Effects that I wasn't familiar with and as a group we were all
collectively proud of our final outcome for this project as it was consistent despite the different animating styles that expresses each of our respective group members.
