Project 2 — Theme Base Scene
Modeling

❥INSTRUCTIONS
❥TASK
For this task, we are required to model a scene based environment on a themed
concept using various techniques that we have learnt and the final output
would be in a diorama or isometric composition. We are to use reference images
and model the scene using polygon tools and techniques of what we learnt and
apply texture to the appropriate materials, then render using Eevee or
Cycles.
1. References
I wanted to go for a Pompompurin themed cafe so I decided to search up for
references on the existing Pompompurin cafe and some references from a game
called Animal Crossing. The colour scheme I am going for would be a warm brown
to yellow tone as it is Pompompurin's overall colour scheme.

2. Modeling Process
I wanted to make chairs for the counter area and took inspiration from the
chairs in Fig 1.3. I made the shape of the head of the Pompompurin's for
the back of the chair then used the bend tool to curve the shape following
the circle base of the chair.

I worked on the rest of the furniture and reused the same object for
the pompompurin chair to make dining chairs surrounding a table.
Fig 2.2 Process of modeling
Once I was done with a majority of the objects and the furniture, I worked
on the details of the desserts and made them all Pompompurin themed,
following the references. I used extrude and subdivide along with edge loops
to create the pancakes, muffins, pudding and macaroon.

After receiving some feedback on the composition and layout of the overall
model, I added another poster on the right side of the wall to
balance out the composition and added a menu beside the clock. Since there
was no flow and focal point like Mr Kamal mentioned, I followed his
suggestion to add more stuff on the counter and decrease the amount of
stuff on the dining table as the food on the counter should be more
prominent.

3. Colouring & Rendering Process
For the glass of the display case, I had to use mix shaders and combine
glass, glossy and transparent BSDF to make it transparent but also
shiny.

I decided to use Cycles to render the overall model.
I drew the menu on procreate and added it as a material for the menu then
added a wooden frame around it, getting the texture from a wooden floor
image from google.

Fig 3.4 Attempt on Lighting
After receiving feedback on the lighting and rendering being too warm
and yellow and a bit too dull, I added 2 planes for the background and
added another area light to be put above suggested by Mr Kamal, to
achieve that realistic cafe ceiling light along with the slight
gradient shadow on the wall to enhance its realism which was created
by using spotlight and increasing the blend setting.

❥FEEDBACK
Week 9
- certain areas are too cluttered so its hard to see the focal point and
there is no visual flow guiding the viewer's eyes
- make one area such as the counter more appealing to make ot the main
focal point and reduce the cluttered-ness on other areas such as the
shelf and the table.
- ensure to follow a consistent colour scheme throughout all the
details
Week 10
- Lighting could be improved by adding area light from ceiling and adding
spotlight with blend to create a gradient look on the walls
❥REFLECTION
This project was probably the most enjoyable and fun to do for me as I always enjoyed designing small dioramas
and drawing them in 2D but never knew how to make them into 3D until I had the
opportunity to do so in this module and project. I also got to learn how to
render glass which was cool and really enjoyed my time designing the foods and
furniture as well as adding all the details.
